Integrity as a System: Constraint-Driven Motion for PhotoEspaña

The core challenge for this PhotoEspaña commission was a strict technical and conceptual constraint: every photograph had to be displayed in its entirety, with zero cropping, regardless of the video’s aspect ratio.

Working with diverse photo formats within a 16:9 frame created constant compositional tension and unavoidable negative space. Instead of hiding these gaps, I chose to turn the limitation into the project’s visual engine. I established a rigid animation rule: every sequence must resolve with the full, uncropped image. By integrating the offsets and empty spaces into the motion language, I transformed a technical hurdle into a rhythmic and conceptual asset.

The result was a sophisticated art direction where the negative space drove the transitions and composition, ensuring absolute respect for the photographic work while maintaining a high-end, cohesive visual identity. This project proves that meaningful design often emerges from the strictest constraints.
